Deep Tissue Blends
Our Basic Deep Tissue
Deep massage technique with increased pressure
and friction. Helps to realign the muscle fibers and works on adhesions
and chronic scar tissue and dysfunction, but not truly a protocol for treatment
for injuries. It brings increased circulation to areas of concern and some
relief to limited range of motion areas depending on the type of injury
or strain a particular area may have. This is NOT a treatment massage for
injuries or a treatment program for chronic issues. It is a deep swedish
massage with limited treatment methods.
Our Deep Tissue Blends and Injury Treatment
Massage
A blend of specific massage techniques from MFR ( myofacial
release), Hawaiian Lomi Lomi, Chinese Tuina, Skin Rolling, Deep Tissue &
Cross Fiber Friction, Trigger point, Assisted Swedish Gymnastics & Muscle
Energy Techniques. Realigning the muscle fibers and working on severe and
chronic adhesions and chronic scar tissue and dysfunction.
May be combined with hydrotherapy and/or Healing packs to promote accelerated healing, reduce soreness, stimulate lymph system flow and encourage blood circulation to areas of treatment. Excellent for injury treatment work.
Deep Tissue Massage description and effects
Thousands of people are affected by chronic pain
and the physical limitations it causes. If you are one of them, you may
be interested in a deep tissue bodywork technique called myofascial release
( MFR), used by more and more people to reduce pain, increase comfortable
movement and improve posture.
What is myofascial release? or MFR?
"Myo" refers to muscle and "fascia" to
the elastic web of connective tissue that spreads throughout your body and
ties it together. Muscles and fascia work together to support your body
and facilitate movement. Myofascial release is a hands on technique involving
the application of stretches and pressure to the fascia and muscles it relieves
tension and pain by releasing and lengthening the fascia, which allows the
muscles to return to their correct position, length and function.
Why is fascia important?
Fascia supports and covers your muscles, organs, bones and
nerves. Interwoven like threads in fabric, fascia connects every part of
the body to every other part. It binds the human body into an integral whole,
allowing the proper function of moving structures including joints, tendons
and muscles. Fascia can become restricted and inelastic from trauma such
as accidents and surgery, as well as from poor posture, chronic inflammation
and overuse. Prolonged tension from stress or emotional upset can also cause
restriction. Restrictions in the fascia pull on muscles and other structures
causing tightness, pain and limited movement.
Why is myofascial release so effective?
A restriction to the fascia can cause discomfort and limited
movement, sometimes in places distant from the root cause. For example,
restrictions in the shoulder can pull on and cause pain in the wrist. We
can release restrictions in the whole region, not just one area in isolation,
as there is an interconnection between muscles and their function that affect
one another. To address the pain in the wrist and the hand, for example,
we may work from the neck, to the arm all the way to the tips of the fingers.
With restrictions released in the fascia, not only is temporary tightness
relieved but long held patterns can be reversed, however a change in patterns
of use are imperative to keep things healthy and not return to their chronic
state. This allows the muscles to stay lengthened and perform in balance
with each other, helping to break habits such as poor posture and protective
"muscle guarding". Because of this people often notice that their
pain relief, improved movement and circulation is long lasting. Myofascial
release is especially effective in reducing chronic headaches, stiff neck,
lower back pain, shoulder problems, fibromyalgia, arthritis and temporomandibular
joint dysfunction (TMJD). It can also repair old injuries by increasing
the pliability of scar tissue in muscles and tendons. Other benefits include
improved flexibility, balance and relaxation.
What is a session like?
Your session will begin with a discussion of your injury
history, pain or limitation, an assessment of your range of motion and posture
so that my work can be focused and accurate. Your first session may be quite
gentle to acquaint you with the technique. Like peeling an onion, I'll begin
with the outermost layer of tissue and work inward. As you relax long, smooth
deliberate strokes and extended stretches will be applied to your tissues.
Over time I may be able to use pressure that is quite firm to go deeper
into the tissue without causing you discomfort. It takes time to get into
the tissue, so expectations of a really deep treatment might not be what
is expected if it is your first time being treated. it is important to work
with whatever state the muscle tissue is in, and work deeper through out
the treatment program in order to have better results. Delving deep into
tissue on the first course of treatment can cause more residual pain and
discomfort afterwards, which could inhibit you from wanting to keep commited
to your treatment program out of fear of more pain. Sometimes less is more,
rather than "the harder the better" to get it over with mentality.
Remember it takes a while to get into a state of chronic pain and it will
take time in order to treat and release and change your patterns.
You will play an active role in your sessions. You may be asked to participate by breathing deeply as a stroke is applied, change your position or stretch your body to help your tissues lengthen and relax. Releasing fascia requires sensitivity and a slow approach. You may be surprised by this and think nothing is happening, again remember less is more. Sometimes it is only after a session that people notice results such as greatly reduced tension and increased ease of movement. It's possible to have some soreness afterward, especially with the first treatment. This can be similar to what you feel after exercising and will be temporary. We can discuss ways to help avoid or relieve residual soreness when you are at home.
It is so important for your treatment program
that you are committed to doing your work in the process at home with stretches
and changes of pattern in order to get better, otherwise you are wasting
your time and money. Remember the treatment protocols are an investment
in your health and well being.
