Edema is an abnormal accumulation of fluid in the extracellular
compartment.
Not all edemas are good indications for LDT and not all will respond in
the same manner
Lymphostatic (high protein) edema or Lymphedema:
In these cases, the lymphatic system itself is not working properly. This
is a mechanical insufficiency. Lymphostatic edema is one of the principal
medical indications for lymphatic drainage
Lymphodynamic Edemas:
By contrast are conditions in which the lymph vessels are still
functioning correctly--they are still "dynamic"--but hey cannot
remove the excessive accumulation of fluid on the connective tissue. The
stagnant liquid present in the connective tissue exceeds transport capacity
of the lymphatic system resulting in functional insufficiency. In most cases,
the cause of the edema needs to be corrected first.
Chronic
venous insufficiency (CVI):
Almost all conditions ca be drained: from the first early stages of venous
diseases up to varicose veins, post-thrombotic leg edemas and hypodermititis
and even late chronic complications such as venous ulcer. Acute phlebitis
however is a contraindication.
Arterial
hypertension
Arterititis,
intermittent caludication (intermittent limping)
Reynaud's
Disease
